IDD Accu-Spina Spinal Decompression in San Antonio, TX

Our flagship non-surgical, computer-guided decompression for disc-related back and neck pain.

What is IDD Accu-Spina Spinal Decompression?

IDD Accu-Spina is a computer-guided, non-surgical spinal decompression system. IDD stands for Intervertebral Differential Dynamics. The table applies a gentle, precisely controlled pulling force to a targeted area of the spine, aiming to reduce pressure on spinal discs and the nerves around them.

Unlike general traction, the system is designed to focus on a specific disc level by adjusting the angle and amount of force. Many people find the experience relaxing, and sessions are fully clothed and drug-free.

How spinal decompression is thought to work

Between each vertebra sits a disc that acts like a cushion. When a disc bulges or herniates, it may put pressure on nearby nerves. Decompression gently separates the vertebrae, which may create a negative pressure inside the disc. This is believed to support the movement of water, oxygen and nutrients into the disc and may help reduce pressure on irritated nerves.

Why a targeted approach matters

The IDD Accu-Spina system adjusts the angle of pull so that force can be directed toward a specific spinal level. Combined with controlled oscillation, this is intended to help muscles stay relaxed so the decompression force can reach the disc rather than being resisted by guarding muscles.

Your care plan

Decompression is usually delivered as a series of visits rather than a single session. After a consultation and exam, Dr. Brad Cudnik will discuss whether decompression is appropriate for you and what a reasonable plan may look like. Every person responds differently, and your plan is reviewed as you go.

Who it may help

  • People with herniated or bulging discs
  • Sciatica and pain that travels into the leg
  • Degenerative disc concerns in the low back or neck
  • Long-standing low back or neck pain
  • People looking to explore non-surgical options before considering more invasive care

Every person is different. A consultation and exam help determine whether this therapy is a good fit for you.

What a session is like

  1. 1You lie comfortably on the padded table, fully clothed, with a harness positioned for the area being treated.
  2. 2The computer applies gentle, cycling decompression forces calibrated for your care plan. Most people feel a mild, comfortable stretch.
  3. 3After decompression, your care plan may include supportive therapies such as laser therapy, muscle stimulation or corrective exercise.

Frequently asked questions

Is IDD Accu-Spina decompression painful?

Most people describe it as a gentle, comfortable stretch. Forces are controlled by the computer and adjusted for you. Let the team know right away if anything feels uncomfortable.

How is this different from regular traction?

Traditional traction generally pulls with a steady force. IDD Accu-Spina is computer-guided and can adjust the angle and pattern of force to target a specific disc level, which is intended to help muscles stay relaxed.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies from person to person. Decompression is typically delivered as a series of visits. Your recommended plan is discussed after your consultation and exam and is reviewed over time.

Is spinal decompression right for everyone?

No. Certain conditions may make decompression inappropriate. A consultation and exam help determine whether it is a reasonable option for you or whether another approach may be a better fit.
